THE FITNESS CLASSES TO LOOKOUT FOR IN 2014!
The 17th IDEA Fitness Programs & Equipment Trends Report has released its latest findings to reveal the fitness trends that are rising in popularity, and set to take 2014 by storm in the UK.
Topping the list at the number one spot across equipment, group exercise and personal training trends is body weight leverage training – the category that was introduced last year to distinguish the incredible rise in popularity of TRX® Suspension Training®.
The product has become a staple feature in PT kit bags, and even the gym floor, but this year you can now expect to see your favourite yellow and black straps appear more regularly on the group exercise timetable. TRX classes bridge the gap between what your PT does on the gym floor, and Group Exercise Instructors teach in those side rooms! So what else can you expect to see more of?
TOP 5 GROUP EXERCISE TRENDS
1. Body weight leverage training (TRX Suspension Training)
Suspension Training is a superb way to build muscular strength as well as improve core stability and posture. Users of the TRX Suspension Trainer perform exercises that build power, strength, balance, flexibility and mobility at the intensity they choose. Over 300 different exercises for the upper and lower body can be performed, using the exerciser’s own body weight and gravity to create resistance. The difficulty level is increased by changing the body’s position and angle in order to add greater resistance. In a group environment, you will be sure to see yourself pushed that little bit further, every time!
2. Core conditioning classes
Pilates and Yoga classes have fast become a staple fixture on the gym timetable, increasing flexibility, strength, balance and body awareness. Both also improve muscular and postural strength, and have been fuelled in popularity with the introduction of variants of the exercise such as performing both in 40°C heat.
3. Boot camp classes
The introduction of Barry’s Bootcamp and Orange Theory Fitness into the UK market has bought what was traditionally an outdoor concept onto the gym floor, and expanded the ‘boot camp’ category to its highest position to date.
4. Strength training classes
Bodypump has always been the go-to strength training class, however recent product developments have powered the growth of more innovative ways to strength train, including the TRX Rip Trainer which not only increases strength, but also rotational power and core stability.
5. Dance (urban, street, funk, hip-hop)
In recent years, the traditional exercise class has moved on leaps and bounds, with urban and street dance classes such as Bokwa and Street Fit really starting to take presence over the popular Latin options that dominate the market.
