New Look Summer Picks

While I wait impatiently for the Kelly Brook 1950s range to come in to New Look, I thought I would share some buys I have purchased from New Look recently for my Summer holidays.

Tribal prints, ethnic beading and Aztec influence combine to inject a dose of safari into this season’s new womenswear collection. Animal print is bold and fierce, refreshed with flashes of colour that bring alive delicate fabrics and shapes. Inspired by the Savannah plains of Africa, key colours rest on sanded and sun bleached neutrals with shades of paprika, mustard and burnt metallics coming through as strong highlights. The introduction of sleeveless shirts, tapered chinos, safari shorts and unlined jackets give a utilitarian edge and harshness to an otherwise soft and feminine story. Transforming the look from day to night relies heavily on the use of detailing. Fringing, lacing and subtle embellishments create a look inspired by desert nights whilst leather, snake print and sumptuous suede add texture and richness.

For ladylike luxe, vintage meets classic to create a look that is delicate, flirty and fun. Feminine elegance is reflected in tweed jackets, pencil skirts, lace detailing and pleated dresses. Sherbet brights and sugary pastels keep things pretty and sweet alongside lace and tulle, crystallised embellishment and floaty fabrics. Tea dresses sit with slouchy tailoring to give a feminine twist to tom boy elements.

My fave- For a big dose of summer frivolity, they’ve taken inspiration from Coney Island with its busy board-walks and faded fair ground attractions. Colour pop denim, graphic florals, and Hawaiian prints echo scorching sunshine and carefree fun.
